Baby reading wearing glasses

I am a fully Certified  Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, having completed my Certification with and a member in good standing with APPA (Association of Placenta Preparation Arts).

I have also completed the BC Foodsafe Course and a course for Bloodborne Pathogens and Infection Control for Placenta Encapsulators, which is recertified on an annual basis.

When you hire me, know that your placenta will be handled in a safe and sanitary manner.  I have a designated area in my home for placenta preparation. Preparation is not done in my personal kitchen, for my safety and yours.  All of my equipment and the processing area is cleaned with hot water and soap and thoroughly sanitized with bleach. My sanitizing solution strength is verified with high quality chlorine test strips.

Upon submission of your online agreement, you were given access to the digital documents outlining the storage and transportation of your placenta as well as a hard copy provided with your cooler. If you have any questions or difficulty accessing the documents, please contact me via phone or text.

Please contact me within 24 hours of the birth, via phone or text, to arrange pick up.  If your birth occurs during the night/early morning, please have someone contact me and leave a voice or text message.  I am able to pick up from your home or I can meet a family member or friend at the hospital.  I am available for pick up between the hours of 8am to 7pm.

The best way to ensure a smooth transfer of your placenta to my care is to discuss your intentions with your Health Care provider and nursing staff, prior to your birth.  The storage and transportation documents, noted above, will provide specific information regarding release of your placenta from the hospital.

Please ensure that your placenta is stored at a safe 4 degrees C, which can include in a fridge or on ice in a cooler (please place the placenta in a plastic storage bag and use another bag for the ice). The placenta can be stored at this temperature for a maximum 48 hours before it must be frozen. For your safety, I am unable to encapsulate if the placenta has not been kept at the temperature noted above or it has been stored for more than 48hours without freezing.

Please submit the online agreement which can be found on my “Book Now” page. In addition to submitting this agreement, please contact me, via text or phone, within 24 hours of birth in order to make pick up arrangements and discuss placenta release from the hospital.  Upon submission of your online agreement, you will be given access to the digital documents outlining the storage and transportation of your placenta.  If you have any questions or difficulty accessing the documents, please contact me via phone or text.

**Submitting the agreement is not considered notice that you require your placenta to be picked up. You must contact me within 24 hours of birth in order to notify me that you have had your baby and to make pick up arrangements.**

If you are unsure that you want to encapsulate, you may ask the hospital to release your placenta so you are able to take it home.

Please freeze the placenta immediately in an air-tight freezer bag, labelled with your name and the date of your baby’s birth. If you decide you would like to encapsulate, please contact me to discuss this option.

You can inquire if it is possible to have a visual exam in the delivery room or if they would consider sending a small piece to pathology.

Unfortunately, if your entire placenta does need to go to pathology, it is no longer suitable or safe for encapsulation due to potential cross contamination and chemical exposure. I will not process a placenta if it has gone to pathology.

Yes, you can have your placenta encapsulated after an epidural, pitocin or a cesarean section.

After the birth, please have your designated person (doula, dad, partner, etc) ensure that your placenta is treated, packaged and stored properly.

Having your placenta can be very beneficial for the healing process, both emotionally and physically.

There are some beliefs that warmth is best after birth (steamed), and coming from a scientific background I can say that cooked food is more bio-available for your body to utilize and the process of steaming will kill more bacteria, which is potentially safer from a consumption perspective.

In regards to the number of capsules, you will have fewer capsules with Traditional/steamed and the RAW method will generally produce a greater number of capsules than the Traditional (steamed) method.

Feedback from clients and other encapsulators seems to suggest there is not a noticeable difference effectiveness-wise, in the RAW preparation versus the Traditional (steamed) preparation.  I don’t generally recommend a specific preparation style, as it is a personal choice.

**Please note that if there is meconium staining observed on the placenta, I will only be able to process with the Traditional method as the steaming method will be required as a precaution to address potential bacteria concerns associated with meconium.**

This varies from person to person and placenta to placenta.  Your placenta can make between 80 to 150 capsules, depending on its size.

If you’ve chosen the TCM inspired method, this will yield fewer capsules.

Ideally, the placenta should be prepared within 48 hours for the most benefits, and the capsules started within 72 hours to mitigate the drop in hormone levels after the birth (around 3-4 days postpartum).

This was made for you, by you so please adjust the dosage according to how you feel and you may want to take more or less.  You may also find that you want to adjust the time of day you take them.  A suggested guideline will be included with your capsules.

It is recommended that you stop taking the capsules is you develop any infection, such as the flu, a cold, mastitis or a fever.  Wait until all signs of infection have cleared before you resume taking your capsules.

After the encapsulation process, the capsules are stored in the glass container for 6 weeks. I also include a desiccant package to absorb any environmental moisture. If you have any capsules left after 6 weeks, put the remaining capsules in a plastic Ziploc bag and place in the freezer. You may want to place the Ziploc bag within a hard plastic container to protect your capsules.  DO NOT store your capsules in the fridge! The fridge is a very humid environment which could cause your capsules to become moist, promoting bacterial growth, and could potentially make you ill.
Some women want to keep their capsules for use later in life (cycle returning or menopause). Please note that I do not have any data about the safety of long term storage of dried placenta. Since this is desiccated human tissue, not powdered minerals or plants like other supplements, please use caution. Think of it like any other food and keep in mind how long you would like to store something before consuming. There is no guarantee of potency and it is reasonable to assume that the hormones will degrade considerably over time.

A better alternative is to request a tincture as part of your encapsulation package, but I can also tincture your remaining capsules. Please let me know if you would like this option.

If you do choose to keep some capsules for your first menstrual flow (it is recommended that you keep 10 -12 for this time) or periods of stress and potentially menopause, they must be stored in the freezer.

**Do not take any capsules or tincture if you are pregnant as the placenta is meant to help the body recover after childbirth and contains hormones which may cause uterine contraction.**

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the capsules, I cannot guarantee any specific results.  Anecdotal evidence suggests that taking the capsules can help with milk production and help prevent the “baby blues”, but everyone is different and they may not work as expected.
